Japan had been a lifelong dream, inspired by martial arts, video games and art. When I finally made the journey in 2026, it was everything I had hoped for. And just like with Iceland, I came home feeling that a small part of my heart had stayed behind.
The journey took me from Tokyo to Hokkaido and back south through Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka. I often travelled by car and planned my days around the weather and the twilight hours, looking for quieter moments before sunrise and after dark.
